Meet The EVIO / Eugene Team

Matthew Hoffman, BS

Laboratory Director

Matthew Hoffman’s joined the team in 2014 and currently serves as Laboratory Director for EVIO Labs / Eugene. Mr. Hoffman earned his Bachelor’s of Science degree in Applied Physics from the University of Oregon.

Mr. Hoffman enjoys employing the diverse range of techniques and strategies required for proper analytical work and oversees all technical and scientific operations in the lab. In addition to Matt’s work as a chemist his skills in data analysis and statistics have proven to be a valuable asset in ongoing data integrity monitoring and quality control management of laboratory activities.

Mr. Hoffman also holds a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree from the Academy of Art University in computer animation. While attending the Academy in San Francisco he not only trained in classical forms of art (such as figure drawing and modeling) but had the opportunity to be immersed in more modern forms requiring computer programming and higher technological skills. Matt spends most of his free time with his daughter while enjoying the outdoors.

Kaylynne Marquez, BS

Kaylynne Marquez, BS

​Ms. Marquez began working as a Cannabis testing laboratory technician for Oregon Analytical Services in 2014. In 2016 she became responsible for the management of back-office operations of the laboratory, including quality assurance, compliance, and procurement. She also provides microbiological testing services for the lab.

Prior to joining OAS and the EVIO Labs group, she worked with Dr. Alan Shanks at The Shanks Lab at the Oregon Institute of Marine Biology on a variety of research projects. She also worked as a Naturalist where she provided educational tours elucidating the ecology of the Pacific Northwest through Whale Research EcoExursions. She was selected to work as intern in the highly competitive Centers for Ocean Sciences Education Experience (COSEE) where she stayed on as a lab technician. Her work included deployment of oceanographic instruments and microscopy work at sea.

Ms. Marquez has prior experience working for a financial investment firm where she worked as assistant to the President performing documentation and staffing tasks. A member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Kaylynne Marquez has degree in Biology from the University of Oregon.

Katya Toporkova, BS

Lead Technician

​Yekaterina (Katya) Toporkova, originally from Kiev, Ukraine, graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Chemistry, with a minor in Business and Entrepreneurship, from Oregon State University (OSU) in 2016. At OSU, she held a position as a teaching assistant where she led a recitation and laboratory for general chemistry courses. Katya was also the vice chair of the OSU Food Science Club. Working in two National Science Foundation (NSF) funded research labs gave her the opportunity to operate a variety of analytical equipment including gas chromatographs, mass spectrometers, and high-performance liquid chromatographs. Through her experience, she gained competency in various extraction and analytical methods, experimental design and technical writing.

Katya also served as a cultivator and processor for the Oregon Medical Marijuana Program. She assembled, operated, and maintained a passive closed loop extraction system while using various techniques to enhance product quality and yield. In her free time, Katya enjoys exploring the Pacific Northwest with her dog Walter. ​
